Teatro Verde

Venice, Italy. 2018 - ongoing

The Norman Foster Foundation is collaborating with Fondazione Giorgio Cini on the concept of the restoration of the Teatro Verde, an outdoor theatre set in the gardens of the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.

Teatro Verde, an outdoor theatre set in the gardens of the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, was originally designed in 1952 by Luigi Vietti and Angelo Scattolin. Built with materials left over from an earlier restoration of structures on the island, it is no longer functional.

Fondazione Giorgio Cini approached the Norman Foster Foundation to explore the feasibility of restoring the theatre as a functioning performance space. This project will not only bring the theatre back to its original state, but also enhance it with the addition of a new structure carefully conceived to respect the theatre’s design and setting, and which will also allow it to provide cover to a wider range of performances.
